(10 years of selected sailing photos from Lake Winnipeg)
This exhibit coincides with the Sailing Competition being hosted by the Gimli Yacht Club for Canada Games 2017
"My photographs in the exhibit are but a small story of 10 years of capturing sailing images on Lake Winnipeg. A love of being on the water led me to the Gimli Yacht Club and being welcomed in to that inspiring group of sailors. In all kinds of weather, if the boats went out….I went out. My camera was often covered with plastic and my shins and arms covered with bruises, but what exhilaration! Along with lake water I often swallowed my fears but always had confidence in the skills of those amazing sailors and their abilities.
It took some trial and error initially with the movement of the boat I was in on the swells to capture these moments. From the weekly Wednesday night races, to the Manitoba Keelboat Championships, to the Sail West Games, to the fun and camaraderie of the ScallyWag, I have been fortunate in seeing sailing skill at it’s finest.
With a beautiful lake and often no horizon in the distance, the boats have added a focal point and seeing people on the pier enjoying the beauty, grace and speed of the boats, is one of the main attractions in the Gimli area.
Special thanks to Rick Lair, Dave Hammond and all those who put up with a photographer onboard, so I could document those days.”
