The New Iceland Heritage Museum (NIHM) continues to feature its in-house exhibits at two sites.

June 27 – Sept 27 “Art of the Book”

Curated and organized by Susan V. Corrigan and Shelagh Smith, this exhibit includes a wide variety with 78 works by 70 book artists from Canada, the United States, and Japan.

Lake Winnipeg Visitor Centre Presentations

Tuesdays from August 3rd to August 24th
Presentation 1:00 p.m.
Discover the history of Lake Winnipeg’s fishing boats. Learn about Gimli’s “Baby Spear” white fish boat and the “millennium York boat” buried beneath Bill’s Hill. An interactive activity will follow.

Wednesdays from July 28th to August 25th
Presentation 1:00 p.m.
Learn about how we affect our lake. Discover the ways you can be Lake Friendly with our interactive doll house.

Thursdays from August 5th August 26th
Presentation 1:00 p.m.
Join us at the Lake Winnipeg Visitor’s Center in learning about the different types of fish and birds that make Lake Winnipeg their home.

Following the presentation, please stay and participate in craft making. These activities are designed for children between the ages of 8 and 12 years and are free to attend. Parents are welcome to attend each session.

October 21st - "Walk to the Rock"

The Gimli Icelandic Canadian Society and the New Iceland Heritage Museum invite you to the annual "Walk to the Rock" a commemorative walk along the shores of Lake Winnipeg to the site where the first Icelandic immigrants arrived.

Join us as we celebrate the establishment of New Iceland, a unique chapter in Canadian History. Starts at the museum, 94-1st Avenue, Gimli. Return to the museum for refreshments.

October 23 – Annual Gala Fundraising Dinner

New Iceland Heritage Museum’s annual gala fundraising dinner in the magnificent Johnson Hall overlooking Lake Winnipeg with musical entertainment, great silent auction prizes!
